Should junk removal ads run on weekends?
In a 2026 Adimize study of 321 recorded junk removal sales calls, only 9% of job inquiries came on a Saturday or Sunday, and after 5 pm, none of 21 job inquiries was booked on the call. For this company, weekday ads that stop at close gave up very little.
What we found
23 of 269 job-inquiry calls (9%) came on a weekend, and just 2 of those on Sundays.
Evenings were a different problem. There were 21 job inquiries after 5 pm, and none was booked on the call. All 3 calls that came in at 7 pm went unanswered.
So weekend clicks were few, and evening clicks were paid for and then dropped. The rest of the numbers are in the study and on the statistics page.
Why it happens
Most people book junk removal like any other errand: during the work week, during business hours. Weekend searchers exist, but there were fewer of them here.
The evening gap is on the operator's side. The owner is done for the day, or still finishing a job, and the phone goes to voicemail. The ad doesn't know that. It keeps running and keeps charging.
What to do about it
- Pull your own call log by day and hour before deciding. This was one company. Your market may be different.
- Count the evening calls and how many booked. If after-hours calls don't book, either answer them or stop the ads at close.
- If you keep evenings, put someone on the phone. A forwarded line or an answering service. See how many calls junk removal companies miss.
- Lower bids in the evening instead of shutting off. That keeps you visible without paying full price for calls nobody takes.
- Check your location setting while you're in there. Weekend and evening clicks from outside your area are the worst of both. See why your ads bring leads from outside your service area.
How we measured this
We studied six months of Google Ads calls and forms for an owner-operated junk removal company in Southern California, late March to the end of September 2026: about $42,000 in search ad spend, 327 calls, 52 forms and 321 call recordings. Each transcript was read and coded with AI assistance for job type, price quoted and how the call ended, and every call coded as booked was checked a second time. One company, one market, six months: treat it as one detailed example, not an industry average. Read the full study.
