Speed, schema, matching business info. The bare minimum beats your whole market.
You're a service business. No showroom. Your website is the storefront, and most of them look rough under the hood.

Now let's get into the ๐ฅฉ and ๐ฅ. Shall we?
You have a storefront. It looks like shit.
You're a service business. No showroom. No shop window. No walk-in traffic. So you know what that means โ your website is the storefront. It's the only one you've got.
And after the run of audits we've done lately โ junk removal, dumpster rental, hauling, site after site โ I can tell you what most of these storefronts look like. One is worse than the next.
But the looks aren't even the problem.
Pretty is paint. Structure is framing.
Don't be fooled by a "good looking" website. Some of the roughest sites we've opened up were the nice-looking ones. Clean hero shot, decent colors โ and under the hood:
- Desktop and mobile sections duplicated, doubling the weight of every page
- Booking forms running on somebody else's domain, so the site gets zero credit for the job
- Review counts frozen at whatever they were the day the template got installed
- "We serve 15 cities" โ with pages built for exactly none of them
- Not one line of schema markup anywhere on the site
Customers see the paint. Search engines and AI crawlers read the framing. And the framing is what decides whether you show up.
How AI search picks a winner
ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google's AI Overviews โ when someone asks "who hauls junk near me," these engines fetch pages live and cite the most specific, consistent, structured source they can find.
Not the prettiest source. The most consistent one.
Your site says one phone number, your Google Business Profile says another? Disqualified. Your hours on Yelp don't match your hours on your site? Disqualified. Your reviews live inside a JavaScript widget the crawler can't read? Invisible.
And the stakes keep climbing. Ahrefs studied 300,000 keywords and found a 58% drop in clicks when an AI Overview shows up. SparkToro's 2026 data shows fewer than 1 in 3 searches sends a click anywhere at all.
The clicks that survive go to whoever the machines trust. And the machines trust consistency and structure. That's it. That's the whole game.
The bare minimum that beats your market
Here's the good news: you don't need a great website. You need a correct one.
Take a bad website โ a genuinely bad one โ and do three things:
Speed. Make it load fast on a phone. Compress the images. Cut the bloat.
Schema. LocalBusiness markup, services, service areas, reviews โ the structured data that tells the machines exactly what you do and where you do it.
NAP matching. Same business name, same address, same phone number โ character for character โ on your website, Google Business Profile, Yelp, Facebook, Apple Maps, Bing Places. The short list of high-authority sites the engines cross-reference before they cite anybody.
That's the bare minimum. And in most local markets, the bare minimum puts you ahead of nearly every competitor you have.
Why the bar is on the floor
Because the hack-job outfits in your area will never do any of this.
You know these guys. Word-of-mouth only. No website, or one a nephew built in 2019 that nobody's touched since. They think the business just shows up. Then a slow month hits, the phone goes quiet, and they sit in the truck feeling sorry for themselves โ doing absolutely nothing to change it.
Those guys are not adding schema. They're not fixing their business info across six directories. They don't know what either of those things is.
Stop competing on their terms. Start competing where they can't follow.
Your storefront, audited
Request your free website audit here. I'll run it through the same audit we've been putting these sites through โ speed, structure, schema, and whether your business info actually matches across the web โ and tell you what the machines see when they read your storefront.
That's it for this week. Ttyl โ๏ธ
